Catholic Adoption Agency in High Court win
18 March 2010

Christopher McCall QC and Matthew Smith acted for the charity in the landmark case brought by Catholic Care to challenge the Charity Tribunal’s ruling that it could not seek to justify the continuation of its adoption agency work on a basis that respected the Church’s beliefs;  Briggs J has allowed the Charity’s appeal and ruled that the Charity Commission must consider whether the proposed element of discrimination is justified in the public interest as outweighed by the benefit to children finding adoptive parents.
