ADR

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), whether by Arbitration or Mediation, is increasingly important as a means of resolving disputes other than through the Courts.

Arbitration

Members of Chambers are routinely involved in domestic and international arbitrations and expert determinations within their various fields of expertise. We act as arbitrators, as experts, and as legal assessors. In addition, we are regularly instructed to act as advocates for parties involved in the arbitral process.

Our experience of advising and assisting in arbitrations extends across the breadth of our core practice skills. Recent examples of our arbitration experience include, for example pensions mis-selling, advance fee fraud, telecommunications, property development, rent related disputes as well as a commercial dispute between two financial services companies, a company and trusts-related dispute concerning shares in a Russian steel business, a complex partnership dispute and many general commercial disputes.

The clerks will be happy to advise as to the most appropriate arbitrator for a particular dispute.

Mediation

In addition, we are actively involved in a wide variety of mediations across the breadth of our practice skills. We act both as qualified mediators, and as advisers and advocates to mediating parties. All members of chambers appreciate the advantages which the mediation process can bring and understand that their role in that process is very different from their role in the litigation process.

All of our accredited mediators are able to mediate a wide variety of disputes, but further information on their individual areas of expertise and experience can be found on their individual profile pages. Our mediators’ rates vary depending on seniority and mediation experience so that, depending on the parties and the nature of the dispute, we can always supply an appropriate mediator. We recognise that in mediations the mediator’s personality may be important, and the clerks are happy to discuss the strengths of particular mediators by telephone.
